Affordability and sustainability – essential criteria
As the buyer’s financial advisor or mortgage broker, we will need you to make sure that all the information on their application form is correct.
It is essential that you have assessed your client’s affordability and sustainability using the criteria set out by government in the calculator and accompanying guidance (opens in a new window).
Help to Buy: Equity Loan - application process
Applications can be made for Help to Buy: Equity Loan online.
This is our preferred option as it helps to ensure that the information is accurate, and we can process the application faster.
The application cannot be processed until we have also received a property reservation form for your client, which is usually provided by the property developer.
Paper based applications
A paper version of the application (PDF,415KB) form and can be printed out, completed, and returned by email or post, along with a copy of the property reservation form (which is usually provided by the property developer).
The application form will need to be signed and dated by your client(s) with a wet signature.
Please ensure the form is completed in full with clear handwriting to avoid delays.
Once we have received the property information form and reservation form we will check them within four working days.
If approved, we will issue an Authority to Proceed. The process of purchasing a home through Help to Buy: Equity Loan is explained in our Buyer’s Guide (PDF,456KB), so you will need to download a copy for your own reference.

A developer isn’t showing on the dropdown list of the application form, why is that?
We won’t know if a developer is in contract for Help to Buy until either the developer gets in touch and lets us know or we receive an application form with them listed as the builder. If they aren’t showing, please get in touch so we can check on your behalf.
What is the maximum amount of financial incentives a buyer can receive from the builder?
The maximum amount of financial incentives a buyer can receive is 5% of the full purchase price. Financial incentives for things such as legal fees, stamp duty paid, gifted deposit. We ask builders to please make sure the combined financial value of these incentives is listed on the reservation form.
I need to make some amendments to the application form that was originally sent in, how do I do this?
This depends what it is that needs amending.
Any change to financial information or a change in plot or builder will need new documentation signed by the applicant(s).
